Canos Inspires Away Day Euphoria – The Brentford Buzz
Beesotted contributor, Billy Taylor, scours the internet to dig up the latest Brentford-related gossip from Twitter, Facebook, the Griffin Park Grapevine (GPG) and more.
Saturday saw history made as Bees fans got to visit the Pirelli stadium for the first time ever and see their side take on Burton Albion.
Brentford went into the game off the back of two frustrating home defeats – at the hands of Wolves and Huddersfield.
The Bees started brightly through a Sergi Canos volley that went in off the bar, it was the Spaniard’s first goal since his return to West London.
But the lead didn’t last long, with Dean Smith’s side conceding two identical goals from corners via an unmarked Sordell, then a thrid came shortly afterwards when Fulham-loanee Woodrow placed a free-kick past Bentley to give The Brewers a 3-1 half time lead.
Cue booing from the away end, followed by chants of “Bentley sort ’em out”… The Bees keeper appeared to nod back in agreement.
RANCHOMIRAGEBEE: 2 goals in 2 minutes both from corners flicked on at near post.
DELBEE: What the hell’s going on we are going to really get drawn into a relegation battle unless we can turn this one round
HOUGHTONBEE: Useless first half after our goal. KK is woeful, has to be his last BFC game as he’s not good enough by far. Sawyers has played some great passes and got an assist, but looks fed up and strangely giving away fouls. Vibe useless, defence a shambles, no chance of anything here today
The Brentford faithful, who stood on the terraces and had been in fine voice, were overcome with a feeling of disappointment and frustration. They weren’t to know of the unthinkable events that were set to unfold.
The team that came out in the second half was a rejuvenated Brentford side who began on the front foot. Lasse Vibe pulled the first goal, which was then followed by Canos’s second of the game as he rounded the keeper to slot home. The forward had got the fans back in full voice as he jumped into the crowd and waved his arms for a rallying cry, everyone now had the feeling that the win was a possibility.
BANGORBEE: 3-3: who’d have thought it at half time? I know I didn’t.
BROOKS: Two more please Bees.
Dean Smith had his team pushing and probing to find a winner. The pressure created a great chance for Jozefzoon as he had his great strike cleared off the line as well as Jota striking the post from range. It seemed only a matter of time before the fourth goal came every Bee in the away end could sense it.
Finally… The breakthrough came as Vibe slid the ball in and the resulting celebrations saw the boys and girls on the terrace sent into absolute bedlam with people falling on top of each other down the stairs in a complete sense of euphoria. There were unbelievable scenes, that at half time the Brentford faithful couldn’t have ever dreamed of.
TOBEESOMEONE: What an absolutely nutcase afternoon.
GBEMS92: What a random but wonderful team we are… You never know whether to laugh or cry
WANDERERPAUL: What a second half
I could not see this happening. So f’ing happy!
King Jota then added a fifth with a magical finish to seal the win (in not quite the last minute) but it was a great way for the wing-wizard to celebrate the birth of his new flag and a song that everyone seemed to enjoy.
The good times didn’t end for Bees fans at full time either as the travelling faithful who found themselves back at Burton train station got the greatest of surprises as the fast-becoming-hero, Sergi Canos, was there to welcome them. It is pretty safe to say both player and fans really embraced each other on the day as the Beesotted videos below captures!
It was a roller-coaster of emotions for all connected to the club and it will be “one of those days” that will stay in the memory of every Bee that was at the Pirelli. Burton away has set very high expectations that will entice anyone to want to return for the next one.
Come on you Bees!
